When does registration start?

Online registration for the spring season (Feb - May), typically begins around the beginning of November in the previous year.  The registration event(s) at the park (or alternate location) will follow in  November, December and early January.  The in-person registration events are for those members that choose to register in person, as well as being the time for all registrants to complete payments, uniform sizing, collect raffle tickets, and sign up as manager or coach.

As of the 2017 season, COYBSA will play a limited winter ball season.  Registration for that season will run during the months of July and August.

Upon completion of registration you will receive an email with further instructions. Please stop by one of our onsite dates to pick up raffle tickets, verify birth certificate (or equivalent,) and try on uniforms (this step is often forgotten.)

There will one or more registration events, usually held at the park (weather permitting), which you need to attend to finalize the registration.

How much does registration cost?

As of the 2022 season, registration costs are as follows:

Spring season --

  • These costs are subject change in upcoming seasons, actual cost is available during the registration process.

Winter Ball --

  • $120 for a single player registration or $100 per player if bringing in a team of 9 or more for all divisions. Managers bringing in a team must email President and Director of Softball or Baseball with the players names in order to receive the team discount. Teams that have less then 12 players may have single player registrations added on to fill a roster of 12 players in total.

Can I link my son/daughter with another player or coach?  What are the rules for this?

No. Siblings in the same division will be automatically placed on the same team (unless specifically not requested), but in general we do not allow players to be linked with a specific coach, manager, or teammate.

I know someone who has offered to be my coach/asst coach.  Can I link our children together on one team?

No.  This is considered a link which we do not allow (see the earlier response).

How does the fundraiser work? (how many tickets, when do I turn in money/tickets, when are prizes drawn, do winners need to be present?)

As of Jan. 1, 2016, you will required to pay $100 for 10 raffle tickets at the time of registration.  These can be sold at any time prior to opening day to recoup your money.  The ticket stubs (with name/phone of purchaser) will be returned to your team prior to opening day, which is when the drawing will occur.  The winner does not need to present to win as long as the name and phone number on the ticket stub can be used to notify them of their prize. If the winner does not redeem prize by certain date (listed on the tickets themselves) it will be fortified and will be used for closing day raffle.

COYBSA does host a league for winter softball, in the 6U - 12U divisions, and baseball, in the Foal thru Pony divisions. Winterball consists of two practices a week and one game on the weekend. We try and keep games to Sundays, however there may be some games that will be played o Saturday.

Do I need to tryout if I was on a team/all-star last year?  What if I can not make tryouts?

In the spirit of fairness, we encourage all players to tryout each year. If an experienced player (i.e., known by the drafting managers) does not tryout, they will be entered into the draft as any other pick. If a new or unknown player does not participate in tryouts, they will be added to the draft as a hat pick for random assignment to a team.

Foal, Shetland, and 6U Softball do not need to tryout.

Top

What will the schedule be for practices/games during the season?

Practice schedules are determined by the coach of your team, but are usually 2 times a week.  Starting in March, there will be 2 regular season games per week (one weekday and one Friday/weekend) until early May.   Following the regular season, there may be a final tournament for each division with the schedule to be determined by the board of directors.

Can I get a refund if my child changes their mind about playing?

The costs associated with registration are refundable up to the time of the draft.  After your player(s) have been placed on a team, all fees are non-refundable.

I would like my child to play up a level, is this possible?  Should we tryout for both divisions?

You must try out for any division that you would like to have your child play.  If you decide to play in both divisions, you will be required to pay the associated registration fees for each.

Top

How will I be notified about tryouts for my child?

Tryout dates and times will be listed on your confirmation email once registration is complete. If in doubt, the blocks of tryout times for each division will be posted online, and you can plan to arrive at the beginning of your respective division's tryout time to be assigned an appropriate slot.

Foal, Shetland, and 6U Softball do not need to try out.

Do you have scholarships or payment plans available to help with the cost of registration?

While there are no specific scholarship programs available, we are committed to making the league available to as many local youth as possible.  Inasmuch, the executive board will work individually with any member to develop a suitably fair and equitable plan that helps them register while allowing the league to maintain its operations. Payments must be paid in full in order for player(s) to receive uniforms and play games.

We had a bad experience with a specific manager.  Can I make sure that my child is not placed/drafted on their team?

We want every child to have the best possible experience while maintaining as fair and equitable team assignment process as possible.  For this reason, any player is allowed to block up to one (1) manager or coach prior to the draft.  Please provide a comment during registration or notify your league director prior to the draft is this is the case.
